Jason James Souders, a proud Oklahoman, passed away in Oklahoma City on September 6, 2026, at the age of 54. He was born on September 17, 1971, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Jason graduated from Shawnee High School and later attended college studying computer programming. He built a career in technical support and worked as a senior associate in technical support for a company that developed software for appraisal companies. In that role, he was well respected for helping appraisers troubleshoot and navigate software issues.
He was described affectionately as a nerd, a title that suited both his sharp mind and his deep enthusiasm for the things he loved. Jason loved Oklahoma and found joy in sharing the state’s history with family and friends. He studied and explored all of Oklahoma’s counties, taking in the stories, places, and character that made his home state so meaningful to him. He also loved John Prine and collected Monopoly games and old Oklahoma artifacts.
Jason will also be remembered for the vivid, unforgettable details that made him uniquely himself. Family and friends smiled at the memory that he was famous for loading his F-150 like a page from "The Grapes of Wrath."
More than anything, Jason was a caring man and a friend to all. He had a heart bigger than the Oklahoma sunset, and he was always there to help anyone who needed it. Among all the things he did in life, he considered his son to be his proudest accomplishment, a reflection of the deep love and devotion he carried as a father.
He is survived by his son, James Souders; his mother, Thelma Souders; father, Larry Souders and wife Tammy; brother, Joe Souders and wife Suzanne; sister, Jennifer Souders; sister, Janel Rae and husband Cris; sister, Scotland Templeton and husband Logan; Rachel Hawley; nieces and nephews, Abby, Callie, Emma, Bryce; and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A viewing will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Riley-Walker Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will take place that same day from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Johnson Church of God, 46209 Garrett's Lake Rd, Shawnee, Oklahoma. Following the ceremony, Jason will be laid to rest at Johnson Cemetery. There will be a dinner following the graveside at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Kings Rd., Shawnee, OK 74804.
Jason will be remembered for his kindness, his knowledge, his humor, and his generous heart. His love for Oklahoma, his devotion to his family, and the many ways he showed up for others will remain with all who knew and loved him.
