Hughie N. Pate

Pate, Hughie N., age 84, of Shawnee, passed away August 26, 2026. Hughie was born on February 10, 1942, in Bloomburg, TX to John W. and Ola B. (Hosey) Pate. He was raised in the New Boston area, then fibbed about his age to join the military at age 17. After serving in the U.S. Army, Hughie met his first wife Rita in Dallas. They married in 1964 and moved to Oklahoma to raise their family, eventually settling in Shawnee. Hughie found employment with the Fred Jones Manufacturing Company in Oklahoma City. He worked there for 30 years, working his way up to the position of Lead Man, and also spent a few years as a truck driver. After 48 years of marriage, Rita and Hughie parted ways in 2013. In 2016, Hughie married Diana Wiens. They remained married until her passing earlier this year. In his younger years, Hughie was a mechanic and motorcycle enthusiast, and enjoyed spending time riding dirt bikes and camping with his girls. For several years after his retirement, his favorite morning hangout was the local Carl's Junior with the others of his vintage, where they met for breakfast and conversation.

Survivors include daughters: Pamela Loman and husband James of Lake Eufaula, OK, Paula Pate of Charleston, SC, Robin Anson and husband Matt of Seminole, OK; grandchildren: Dylan Loman, Tyler Pate and wife Rebecca, Jared Pate, Braden Anson, Gunner Anson, and Dalton Peerson, daughter Sharlene Peerson, as well as nieces, nephews and friends.

Hughie was preceded in death by his parents, wife Diana, sisters: Dorothy Warren, Emmy Stewart, Cecil Stroman, and Vera Stroman; brothers: Wesley Ledbetter, Bill Ledbetter, and Richard Ledbetter.

Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home from 12-6pm with the family present to greet friends from 4-6pm on Monday, August 31, 2026. A funeral ceremony to celebrate Hughie's life will be held at 10am Tuesday, September 1, 2026, in the Chapel at Riley-Walker Funeral Service & Crematory with Rev. Larry Sparks officiating. Following the ceremony, Hughie will be laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery in Shawnee.
